How much does drywall water damage repair cost?
A single room with water-damaged drywall typically runs $800 to $2,500 in the Waldorf area. That covers cutting out the wet sections, drying the wall cavity, treating for mold, and hanging, taping, and finishing new drywall. Larger areas or multiple rooms scale from there.
Why you can't just paint over it
Wet drywall doesn't recover. It loses structural integrity, grows mold inside the wall cavity where you can't see it, and the paper backing feeds mold growth. Paint seals the moisture in and makes it worse. The wet section has to come out — there's no shortcut that works.
Our process
- Moisture mapping — we find exactly how far the water wicked up the wall (it travels further than the visible stain).
- Controlled removal — flood cuts at the right height, minimal dust, contained work area.
- Cavity drying — studs and insulation behind the drywall get dried before anything goes back.
- Rebuild — new drywall hung, taped, mudded, sanded, and primed. Ready for your paint.
The 48-hour rule
Mold starts growing on wet drywall within 24 to 48 hours. If your drywall got wet more than two days ago, assume there's mold in the cavity and call now — not next week.
